Gorp.

Gorp is a snack food commonly used in outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, backpacking, mountaineering and camping. This food mixture is termed scroggin in New Zealand and Australia, and Studentenfutter in German-speaking countries. Trail mix usually consists of a mixture of nuts and dried fruits such as raisins or cranberries. Other ingredients such as chocolate chips may also be included.
Two backronyms for the word "gorp," an alternate name for trail mix, are Good Old Raisins and Peanuts and Granola Oats Raisins and Peanuts. Some assume that "gorp" is an actual acronym for one of those phrases (or alternatively for "Gobs Of Raw Protein"), but it is probably a folk etymology. The Oxford English Dictionary cites a 1913 reference to the verb "gorp", meaning "to eat greedily". Another name may be "Gross Oats Rotten Peanuts".
Trail mix is an ideal snack food on the trail. It is lightweight and easy to store, because all of its ingredients are desiccated. It is also very energy rich, providing quick energy from the carbs in the dried fruit and or granola, as well as sustained energy from the mostly mono- and polyunsaturated fats in nuts.
While prepackaged commercial variants of Trail Mix are readily available many outdoor enthusiasts prefer to mix up a homemade batch.

My Kind of Town?

In the past and basically up to this point, the name "Chicago" has meant long delays at ORD and freaking freezing ass cold windy weather- blah. It earned the nickname Shitcago.

September 30th, 2007 (Happy Birthday Mom!)
I land at ORD to have my bag temporarily misplaced, an extra hour in the airport. Imagine that, no surprise there. But when you walk outside.... comfy climate. Hmmm.... Check in to the Marriott, nice hotel. Hmmmm....
October 1st, 2007
Takin the "L" in to work. Feeling alive in a big city, thinking NYish - love it. Arrive at the federal building downtown, LOVE IT. I always wanted to work in a federal building! 34th floor, oh their view!

October 2nd, 2007
Took advantage of the full kitchen in the hotel, brought a cake to our staff meeting:

October 3rd.... 4th....

Took long strolls around the city, shopped a bit too - wow. So many wonderful things you can notice when you don't have to cover your face with a scarf and protect yourself from cold weather (hee hee):

And so begins a new era... of thinking this is my kind of town... and wearing GSA shirts.

Until next time Chicago, until next time....

Queen For A Day

You'd think I went to a spa and pampered myself right? Nope. In Key West when you say you went to Queen For A Day it most certainly involves men in drag. Even better, this is straight men in drag for fundraising! What a great way to do it... the island is gearing up for Fantasy Fest for sure! This is Muffin Cups, he and his wife own The Restaurant Store in Key West (http://www.keywestchef.com//). The last crowned Queen in 2002, she was here tonight to pass the reign to a new Queen. Richard, you're amazing. If anyone were to tell me you did this and I didn't see it for myself (or pictures from 2002) I would NEVER have believed it! All for a good cause! And by the way, I DO have a shirt on, you just can't see it well. ha ha

And so the contest starts...

...
And there was Arek posing for pictures with his new friends.....
And there was singing and dancing, and the gals were offering "bribes" to the judges
Devil with a blue dress on! Lord have mercy!

Fantasy Fest is going to be a blast.
In the end, a lot of money was raised for AIDs Help. All in good fun, all for a good cause.
